[New Anime] Orb: On the Movements of the Earth' Anime Premieres in October
The TV anime 'Orb: On the Movements of the Earth' is set to air starting in October on NHK General TV (every Saturday at 11:45 PM). The PV and cast information have been revealed, with Maaya Sakamoto playing the prodigy Rafau, Kenjirou Tsuda voicing the inquisitor Novak, and Show Hayami as the enigmatic scholar Hubert.
The released footage begins with Rafau's monologue, "This world is full of fools," and ends with his declaration, "From now on, I will move the Earth." During an era when the geocentric theory was considered the absolute truth, and questioning or researching otherwise was a grave crime, Rafau learns about the heliocentric theory from the mysterious scholar Hubert.
Rafau, who was regarded as a genius, develops a fierce intellectual curiosity. "What must I sacrifice to understand everything in this world?" Driven by his "knowledge," "blood," and life, Rafau embarks on a journey to prove the heliocentric theory. What fate awaits him?
The series, originally serialized in 'Weekly Big Comic Spirits' from September 2020 to April 2022, is set in 15th century Europe. During an era when heretical thoughts were punished by burning at the stake, the story follows those who risked their beliefs and lives to prove the heliocentric theory despite the prevailing geocentric doctrine. Rafau, the prodigy, was expected to major in theology, the most important subject at the time. However, one day, a mysterious man researching a heretical "truth" appeared before Rafau.
The anime is produced by MADHOUSE, known for popular works like 'HUNTER×HUNTER,' 'DEATH NOTE,' and 'Parasyte -the maxim-'.

Q1. Thoughts on reading the original work and script
I was originally a big fan of the manga and was deeply moved by it. When I was invited to audition, I was excited and thrilled, and shocked to be offered the role of Rafau?! I knew it was a challenging role, so I was nervous.
Q2. About playing Rafau
He is a key character who bears the starting point of this grand story. I focused on making his inner conflicts and desires relatable to the audience, especially in the beginning, so they could share in his thirst for knowledge.
Q3. A message to the fans
Some might be surprised that a woman is playing Rafau. But having been chosen through the audition, I approached the role with a sense of duty as a fan of the original work, hoping to deliver a Rafau that everyone can believe in. I trust you will enjoy it without any discomfort.

Q1. Thoughts on reading the original work and script
I was moved by the intense drama between the protagonists who risk their lives for the heliocentric theory and those on the oppressing side. It made looking up at the night sky feel sacred. The depth of the title is profound.
Q2. About playing Novak
He is an incredibly compelling villain. As the cold executioner of justice in this world, he is also a doting family man. He carries out his duties with strong resolve while being vulnerable to fundamental questions and the transformation of worldviews, making him fun to portray.
Q3. A message to the fans
This story is filled with intense human drama and a powerful narrative about those who risk everything for their beliefs. It's an entertainment piece with complex themes. Please watch it.

Q1. Thoughts on reading the original work and script
In a world where faith holds authority, and the convenience of rulers is prioritized over truth, the story reflects common occurrences in human collectives. I felt deep frustration and sorrow while reading it.
Q2. About playing Hubert
He has a keen intellect and passionate drive. Despite being subdued by oppression, or even if rationality makes him yield, he is consumed by the desire for truth, fascinated by the heliocentric theory. He is a sad, beautiful, and sinful researcher.
Q3. A message to the fans
This isn't a work meant to be passively enjoyed. Share in the emotional pain and let your imagination soar as you watch 'Orb.'
