Maria Naganawa Shares Her Experience Recording for the Movie "Wonderful Pretty Cure!" "Everyone Couldn't Help But Sigh at the Cuteness"
Maria Naganawa, who voices Cure Wonderful/Komugi Inukai in the movie "Wonderful Precure! The Movie! Exciting A great adventure in the world of games!" (to be released on September 13th), shared her thoughts in a recent interview.
When she first received the script, she imagined Kumugi in her usual four-legged form. However, during the first recording session for the CG part, Kumugi was depicted walking on two legs, although in an unfinished illustration form. "Even at that stage, her movements were already so adorable! Seeing her perform movements like radio exercises or picking up a ball, which she usually wouldn't do, and running like a human instead of on all fours—I thought it was incredibly cute," Naganawa remarked.
Regarding the other Precure characters, she enthusiastically explained, "Cure Lillian, who is usually beautiful and elegant, showed a bit of a cute side, and Cure Friendly became even more adorable. Every scene was just overflowing with cuteness."
Naganawa also shared insights into the atmosphere during the recording sessions. "There were times when we had to wait while watching the animated scenes, and you could hear sighs of 'cute...' coming from all around," she revealed. "By the time we finished recording, Ueda-san (who voices Cure Lilian/Mayu Nekoyashiki) even said, 'I might have used up my lifetime's worth of the word 'cute' today.' Everyone couldn't help but sigh at the cuteness."
In addition to the charming visuals that captivated the cast, the movie also prominently features the strong bond between Kumugi and Iroha, who are separated for the first time—a key highlight of the story.
"The TV series depicted the expanding bond between Komugi and Iroha, and Mayu and Yuki, forming a strong connection among the four, with characters like Satoru and Mey Mey also involved. The movie, however, delves deeply into the feelings of the characters when they are separated, even though they are united as one," Naganawa commented.
As for what makes the movie stand out, she emphasized, "While Komugi often has a positive outlook in the TV series, the movie shows her determination when faced with the possibility of being separated from Iroha. I believe this is a unique and compelling aspect of the film."
