A new TV anime, Mashin Genesis Wataru, is set to air starting January 2025 on six TV Tokyo network channels. This marks the first new TV anime in the Wataru series in 27 years, following the broadcast of Super Demon Hero Wataru from 1997 to 1998. Along with this announcement, a new PV, as well as the cast and staff details, have been revealed, with Mutsumi Tamura voicing the protagonist Wataru Hoshibe and Tomokazu Sugita voicing Ryujinmaru.

This new installment of the original anime Mashin Hero Wataru series follows the core spirit of the franchise, introducing fourth-grader Wataru Hoshibe as a RyuTuber aiming to become a superstar. Together with his partner Ryujinmaru, Wataru embarks on an adventure battle in a mysterious world where blocks float in the air, all to defeat the final boss, "Enjoda."

Other announced cast and staff include Atsumi Tanezaki as Kakeru Amabe, Katsuyuki Konishi as Ofurain, Megu Umezawa as Maro, and Rie Kugimiya as Ryunryun. The series is directed by Yumi Kamakura, with Yoichi Kato handling series composition, and produced by Bandai Namco Pictures.

In celebration of the new TV anime, a manga adaptation will begin serialization in the January 2024 issue of Monthly CoroCoro Comic, set for release on December 13, 2023.

The Mashin Hero Wataru series originally aired from April 1988 to March 1989 with a total of 45 episodes, followed by a second series in March 1990, Mashin Hero Wataru 2, and a third series, Super Demon Hero Wataru, in October 1997. The story revolves around the energetic and justice-loving fourth-grader Wataru Ikusabe, who is transported to the alternate world of Shinbukai, where he embarks on a journey with his companions to save the realm from the evil emperor Doakuda, who has taken over Sokaizan.

In 2020, a long-awaited new web anime, Mashin Hero Wataru: The Seven Souls of Ryujinmaru, was released on the official BANDAI SPIRITS YouTube channel, with all nine episodes available for viewing. A special edition featuring new footage, Mashin Hero Wataru: The Seven Souls of Ryujinmaru – Reunion, was released in theaters in 2022, generating significant buzz.
