The second episode of the new anime series "Dragon Ball DAIMA," part of the popular "DRAGON BALL" franchise, aired on October 18 on Fuji TV. Due to Goku and Vegeta turning into children, the main cast was completely replaced for 12 characters, leading to surprise and confusion online. Comments like "Voice actor change?!" and "Why wasn't this announced beforehand?" flooded social media, with "voice actor change" trending on X.
The second episode depicted Goku and his friends, who had been transformed into smaller versions of themselves by Gomah (Showtaro Morikubo)'s scheme, deciding that they needed to head to the Demon Realm and preparing for the journey. Goku, with the Power Pole in hand, was filled with excitement for a new adventure when the mysterious young demon, Glorio (Koki Uchiyama), suddenly appeared.
While Masako Nozawa continues to voice the child versions of Goku and Goten, other roles have been recast: Vegeta (Mini) is now voiced by Yudai Mino (replacing Ryo Horikawa), replacing Ryo Horikawa; Bulma is now voiced by Mai Nakahara (replacing Aya Hisakawa) instead of Aya Hisakawa; Piccolo is played by Tomohiro Yamaguchi (replacing Toshio Furukawa), replacing Toshio Furukawa; Krillin is now voiced by Aki Kanada (replacing Mayumi Tanaka) instead of Mayumi Tanaka; and Chi-Chi is now voiced by Ai Kakuma (replacing Naoko Watanabe) instead of Naoko Watanabe.
Additionally, Nobuaki Kanemitsu voices Kamesennin (Master Roshi); Tsubasa Yonaga voices Trunks; Erina Goto voices Dende; Kimiko Saito plays popo; Yusuke Handa voices Kibito; Toru Sakurai voices Mr. Satan; and Shiho Amuro voices Majin Buu. All are featured in their "mini" versions, and a total of 12 major characters have had their voice actors changed.
There was no prior announcement regarding the cast changes, and fans learned of the new voices during the broadcast. Shoko Nakagawa, a celebrity known for her love of anime, reacted in real-time on X while watching the story unfold, commenting, "Is Krillin's voice different?" and "Everyone's voice is different except for Goku, and now I'm left confused."
Other viewers also took to social media, saying, "Honestly, I really didn't want the voices to change... It's going to take a long time to get used to this," "That was a bold decision," "They can't change Krillin and Vegeta's voices! I'm really disappointed," and "Without an announcement of the change, some people might think there wouldn’t be any, and many fans have emotional attachments to the original voice actors." The reactions were filled with surprise and confusion, with many lamenting, "I'm shocked they changed anyone but Masako Nozawa."
