Jyubei Aryu's Background in Blue Lock
Aryu's past is depicted in the Blue Lock novel. He was born into a family that runs an antique shop, with a father who traveled the world collecting various items and a calm mother. While his father had a passion for antiques, Aryu developed a strong admiration for new things and came to hate his own name, "Jyubei," which felt outdated to him. "Jyubei" is also the name of a famous swordsman from Japan's Edo period, a name rarely seen in modern times and considered quite old-fashioned.
Longing for a word that surpassed his father's use of "beautiful," Aryu struggled to find his own highest form of expression. After much contemplation, he discovered the concept of "Osha" (derived from the Japanese slang "oshare," meaning stylish).
As a middle schooler, Aryu considered future careers that would allow him to "live stylishly." At one point, he wanted to be a musician, and at another, he wanted to become a monk due to his interest in temples and shrines. However, he gave up on becoming a musician because of his lack of musical talent and abandoned his monk aspirations as he couldn’t bring himself to shave his beloved hair.
Aryu started playing soccer at the age of 10, and with his extraordinary physical abilities and height (over 170 cm by that time), he became a prominent striker. In middle school, he led his team to the national tournament.
During his high school years, while devoting himself to soccer, he was invited to join Blue Lock.

Jyubei Aryu's Key Moments and Images from Various Episodes
Next, we will look back at Jyubei Aryu's key moments in each anime episode, along with images.
■First Selection
In the original series and spin-offs, there are no detailed depictions of Aryu’s matches. However, it is known from his cleats that he belonged to Team V.
■Second Selection
In the first stage of the second selection, Aryu passed through as the second-ranked player, following Rin Itoshi. He then teamed up with Aoshi Tokimitsu, who ranked third, and faced off against Isagi, Bachira, and Nagi. Aryu dominated the aerial battle against Nagi with his jump and long reach, leading to a 5-2 victory. He picked up Bachira and moved on to the fourth stage.
In the next match, Isagi and Nagi, who had joined forces with Barou and Chigiri, challenged Aryu's team again. With Bachira's passing skills and advice, Aryu's strengths became even more pronounced, and he started to control the game. However, Isagi’s team had improved as well, leading to a close match.
In the end, Aryu’s team won due to a stroke of luck. Rin then selected Isagi to join his team, and Aryu advanced to the third selection.
Third Selection
Aryu was not chosen as one of the top six players in the second selection. Still, pursuing his "Osha," he volunteered to join Team A, led by Rin (No. 1) and Shidou (No. 2), for the second match. Although Aryu did not score any goals, he fully utilized his physical strengths and, through his coordination with Yukio Ishikari—said to be the tallest player in Japanese high school soccer—exhibited powerful defense, contributing to Team A's victory.
Summary
Aryu may be a narcissist in pursuit of "Osha," but he is also a person of pride who finds an aesthetic in the way he fights. After securing consecutive victories against Isagi's team during the second selection, he was one of the first participants to pass the second selection alongside Rin Itoshi. So far, he has performed steadily without facing elimination in Blue Lock. Aryu has also been chosen for the selected team to face the U-20, and his continued success is highly anticipated.
