HUNTER×HUNTER to Go on Hiatus After 10 New Chapters; Next Release Date TBD
It was announced in the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump (Issue #2, December 9th) that the manga HUNTER×HUNTER will no longer be published in subsequent issues after running for 10 consecutive chapters since October 7th. The most recent chapter (#410), featured in today’s release, concluded with a note stating, “The next publication will be announced in the magazine as soon as it is decided.”
As previously clarified by the editorial team, the series is no longer serialized weekly, so the magazine will not list it as "on hiatus" in the index starting from the next issue.
A Legacy of Adventure
First serialized in 1998, HUNTER×HUNTER is an adventure fantasy that follows Gon, a young boy, and his journey alongside his friends Killua and others. Currently, the story is in the Dark Continent Arc (Succession War Arc), focusing on the intricate schemes of characters such as Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe aboard a ship headed toward an uncharted continent. The series has achieved a cumulative circulation of over 84 million copies (including digital editions).
Challenges Faced by Creator Yoshihiro Togashi
Creator Yoshihiro Togashi has struggled with severe back pain, which led to the end of the series' weekly serialization following Chapter 400, published in the December 26, 2022 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. At the time, the editorial team explained:
“After discussing with Togashi-sensei and considering his health, it was decided that future chapters of HUNTER×HUNTER will not follow a weekly serialization format.”
The team also reassured fans that Togashi was continuing work on the story and that they would support him until the series reached its conclusion.
The Recent Comeback
After a hiatus of nearly two years, HUNTER×HUNTER returned on October 7, 2024, with Chapter 401. Over the past 10 weeks, fans have been treated to new chapters weekly, culminating in Chapter 410 in today’s release. However, with no set schedule for future publications, readers will need to stay tuned to Weekly Shonen Jump for updates.
