Nezuko Kamado is the heroine of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and the younger sister of the protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado. Originally a kind-hearted and caring girl, her life changes forever when her family is slaughtered by Muzan Kibutsuji, and she herself is turned into a demon.

Despite becoming a demon, Nezuko exhibits the rare and extraordinary trait of not attacking humans. This unique behavior is believed to stem from a hypnotic suggestion by Sakonji Urokodaki, combined with Nezuko’s own strong willpower. To avoid sunlight, she travels in a specially-made wooden box carried by Tanjiro and becomes a vital ally in battle.

Though unable to speak due to a bamboo muzzle she holds in her mouth, Nezuko expresses herself through facial expressions and gestures. Her deepening bonds with Tanjiro and his companions reveal her retained humanity and emotional growth. Over time, she evolves into a one-of-a-kind demon who fights to protect humans.

◆Abilities and Traits

Nezuko Kamado possesses unique abilities as a demon, using her power and techniques to support Tanjiro and his allies in battle.

● Blood Demon Art: Exploding Blood
Nezuko’s unique Blood Demon Art allows her to ignite her own blood, burning anything it touches. Remarkably, this ability targets only demons, leaving humans unharmed. This makes it exceptionally effective in mixed battlefields.

She has used this technique effectively even against Upper Rank demons, whose severed limbs regenerate instantly, helping to stall or counterattack during fights.

● Rapid Growth
In moments of emotional intensity, Nezuko can alter her body to that of an adult, greatly enhancing her physical strength and agility. She also sprouts a horn and branch-like markings on her skin. During the Entertainment District Arc, this transformation escalates to a berserk state that nearly causes her to lose control, but Tanjiro’s lullaby brings her back to her senses.

● Enhanced Physical Capabilities
As a demon, Nezuko possesses superhuman strength, endurance, regeneration, and jumping power. She uses these abilities deftly in combat, both in support of Tanjiro and in solo battles.

◆Relationships

● Family
Tanjiro Kamado (Older Brother)
Their strong sibling bond forms the emotional core of the series. Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps to find a cure for Nezuko, while she repeatedly risks her life to protect him. Their relationship symbolizes hope and unconditional love.

The Kamado Family
Though they were killed by Muzan in the prologue, their memory lives on in Nezuko’s heart, anchoring her humanity. The lullaby sung by their mother, Kie Kamado, plays a crucial role in bringing Nezuko back to herself when she loses control in the Entertainment District Arc.

● Demon Slayer Corps Members
Giyu Tomioka
Initially attempted to slay Nezuko but changed his mind after witnessing her protect Tanjiro. He introduces them to Urokodaki and remains one of the few Hashira to recognize her uniqueness.

Sakonji Urokodaki
Implanted a subconscious suggestion in Nezuko: “Humans are your family. Protect them.” This helped her resist her demonic instincts and survive as an unprecedented case.

Zenitsu Agatsuma
Fell in love with Nezuko at first sight and constantly praises and protects her. Nezuko, in turn, shows concern for him and comes to his aid, building a quirky but heartwarming friendship.

Inosuke Hashibira
Initially hostile toward Nezuko due to her being a demon, he slowly accepts her as an ally through shared battles.

Tamayo and Yushiro
Fellow demons who do not harm humans. Tamayo conducts research to turn demons back into humans using Nezuko’s blood, making her a key player in developing a cure.
