[App Store iPhone Game Chart in Japan] “Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME” Debuts at No. 1 (Aug 25–31)

The “App Store iPhone Weekly Game Chart”* is based on the number of iPhone game downloads in Japan over the course of a week. In the latest survey (August 25–31, 2025), Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME debuted at No. 1 on the Free Games Chart, while Exit 8 claimed the No. 1 spot on the Paid Games Chart, jumping up from 6th place the previous week.


A Turn-Based Command Battle Game Immersed in the World of Kaiju No. 8

Debuting at No. 1 on the Free Games Chart, Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME is a turn-based command battle game that fully immerses players in the world of the globally popular manga and anime Kaiju No. 8, serialized in Shonen Jump+. The game recreates the intense battles between the monstrous kaiju sudden, disaster-like creatures and the Japan Defense Force tasked with defeating them, all rendered in high-end graphics. In addition to familiar characters, the game introduces an original character exclusive to this title: Sagan Shinomiya.

At No. 2, another new release, ACECRAFT, made its debut. This vertical-scrolling bullet-hell shooter can be enjoyed solo or in co-op with two players. Players can acquire randomly dropped items called “Attachments” and strategically use them to upgrade their abilities. Its distinctive retro cartoon-style illustrations add to the charm, and a limited-time collaboration event with Tom and Jerry is currently underway.

Coming in at No. 3 is Block Blast , a long-standing chart favorite that combines block puzzles with brain teasers. Its simple controls, complemented by fun background sound effects and rhythm, keep it popular among players.

Rising with the Film Release? Exit 8 Climbs from 6th to 1st

Meanwhile, topping the Paid Games Chart is Exit 8 , the iOS version of a popular title already available on Steam and Nintendo Switch. The game features eerie subway station-like stages. While the corridors look identical at first glance, players must turn back if they spot even a slight difference; if not, they proceed to the next stage. Starting from Exit 0, the goal is to eventually reach Exit 8.


The game’s surge in downloads coincides with the August 29 release of the live-action film Exit 8, starring Kazunari Ninomiya. The film attracted 672,000 viewers and grossed 954 million yen in its first three days, debuting at No. 2 in the nationwide box office rankings (Aug 29–31, per Kogyo tsushin sha).

Following Exit 8 on the Paid Games Chart are Minecraftat No. 2 and Suika Game Aladdin X at No. 3, both showcasing enduring popularity. At No. 4, Kairosoft’s pixel-art simulation title Story of the Demon Lord’s Castle continutoes show staying power, maintaining a Top 5 spot for four consecutive weeks since its debut (2nd → 2nd → 3rd → 4th).
