The live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon is set to premiere in theaters across Japan on September 5. Dragon Ride Scene Highlights Hiccup and Toothless’s First Flight

The newly released scene captures the moment when Hiccup mounts the legendary Night Fury, Toothless, and takes to the skies for the first time. Set on the lush, natural island of Berk, the scene begins with Hiccup shouting in awe, “This is amazing! I’m riding the wind!” as they soar through the sky.

However, things quickly turn tense when a gust of wind blows away the sheet of notes Hiccup had prepared to steer Toothless. As he shouts “Stop!” Toothless halts abruptly, throwing Hiccup into the air. With Toothless missing part of his tail fin, stable flight is only possible with Hiccup’s homemade device. The pair plummet toward the ground as gravity takes hold.

From Panic to Harmony: A Turning Point in the Story

Despite the near-crash, the two manage to regain control. They weave through rocky cliffs, and Hiccup discards the instructions, relying instead on his instincts. With his arms stretched wide, he shouts “Yeah!” in pure exhilaration. The sequence marks a key turning point in the film, symbolizing the emotional connection and growing trust between dragon and rider.

Production Aims to Immerse Viewers in the Sky

Producer Marc Platt explained that the scene was crafted to give viewers the sensation of flying on a dragon’s back. Known for his work on La La Land (2016) and the upcoming Wicked, Platt has received four Academy Award nominations. For this project, he combined IMAX cinematography with advanced CGI to deliver an immersive Dragon Ride experience.

A Story of Bonding at the Heart of the Film

Co-producer Adam Siegel emphasized that the core of the film remains the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless. “They are flying partners who rely on each other equally. If one falls, the other does too. Their bond represents the journey from fear to friendship,” he said.

In a world where dragons and humans are at odds, the bond between Hiccup and Toothless is central to the story’s resolution. The intense and dynamic visuals are expected to leave a strong impression on both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
