Kaiju No. 8 Voice Actors Feature in Special Program Recap

The second season of the TV anime Kaiju No. 8, which concluded its serialization on Shueisha’s manga app Shonen Jump+ and has been airing and streaming since Saturday, July 19, 2025, held a special program on ABEMA titled Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 ABEMA Special! on Saturday, September 20, at 8:00 p.m (JST).

The event featured Katsuya Fukunishi (voice of Kafka Hibino/Kaiju No. 8), Fairouz Ai (voice of Kikoru Shinomiya), Kengo Kawanishi (voice of Soshiro Hoshina), and Kouki Uchiyama (voice of Gen Narumi). Together, they shared in-depth discussions about the appeal of the anime.

Looking Back on Kaiju No. 8 Season 2

The program kicked off with a recap segment, looking back at the series up to Episode 21 with video highlights.

Fairouz Ai reflected on Kikoru’s emotional line in Episode 17, “I want to get stronger,” which she confides to Narumi. She revealed that this line was also part of her audition script and said, “It’s rare for a heroine to be depicted with tears and even snot. I really liked that it was drawn without embellishment as an essence of emotion, and I tried to carry that into my voice acting.”

Asked about Narumi’s unexpectedly gentle words to Kikoru during the same scene, Uchiyama commented, “It showed that he has a side befitting a captain, which explains why he holds that position. It brought out the depth and complexity of Narumi’s character, which surprised me.” Reflecting further on a scene where Narumi converses with Kafka, he added, “It felt like a conversation between those who shared the same battlefield but couldn’t quite reach their goals. That unspoken frustration and sadness made the scene impactful.”

In Episode 20’s “Kafka and Hoshina’s Training” scene, Kafka trains under Hoshina’s guidance. Despite the risk of losing his humanity, Kafka is taught the Defense Force’s martial arts, pushing him to strengthen himself as a person. Fukunishi reacted with, “So cool!”

Kawanishi, who voices Hoshina, reflected: “The coldness he shows comes from his concern for Kafka. Taking into account everything Kafka has been through, Hoshina chooses his words carefully. I realized that again while performing.”

A sneak peek of Episode 22, “Cluster Disaster,” was unveiled, featuring Kaiju appearing not just in Tokyo but across Japan, along with a shot of Kafka in his new suit.

The new specialized suits for Kikoru, Hoshina, and Narumi were also revealed. The studio erupted with excitement, with comments like “So cool!” and “Stylish!” When Fukunishi noticed Hoshina’s suit had a tail, he exclaimed, “The tail is this big!? It’s as big as his torso!”

Asked about the highlights of Episode 22, Fukunishi said: “After the frustrating battles in the first half of Season 2, everyone’s eyes grow sharper, and the combat becomes more refined. As the actor playing Kafka, I’m also excited to see Captain Ashiro in action.”
