Current 'Doraemon' Voice Actor Wasabi Mizuta Pays Tribute to Nobuyo Oyama: 'Holding the Baton Firmly...'
On the 12th, voice actress Wasabi Mizuta updated her blog, sharing her tribute to Nobuyo Oyama, who originally voiced Doraemon and passed away on September 29th.
Mizuta recalled, "When I was a rookie, I got to participate in the Doraemon recording sessions a few times. I remember being incredibly nervous. When Nobuyo Oyama entered the studio, her presence was overwhelming." She continued, "When she spoke in front of the mic, she radiated the power of leading the work of Doraemon. Watching my senior actors deliver their lines at the mic was so exciting that it made me feel as if I was seeing the characters themselves."
She further revealed, "After I began playing Doraemon, I had the opportunity to meet her at a Japan Actors Union party. I vaguely remember going on stage with Oyama and some senior colleagues, but honestly, I was so nervous that the memories are a bit fuzzy."
She added, "There are so many emotions that only Oyama would understand about playing Doraemon. Though it's still just my 19th year, I’ve come to experience the hardships, anxieties, and above all, the joy of this role. We are running on the sturdy track that seniors spent 26 years building. I'm holding the baton handed to me firmly as I run."
Mizuta concluded, "To be able to pass on the baton someday, I will remember Oyama's wonderful smile and enjoy myself with a smile too. Thank
