'Ranma 1/2' Anime Season 2 Announced: PV Reveals Mysterious Male Character's Voice Saying, "Prepare Yourself, Ranma Saotome"
The popular TV anime Ranma 1/2 will officially return with a second season. The announcement was made during the final episode of the first season, which aired today, December 22, on Nippon TV. Alongside the news, a teaser PV and a commemorative illustration were released.
The newly released illustration, drawn by character designer Hiromi Taniguchi, features Ranma (male form), Ranma (female form), Akane, and Genma (in panda form) making peace signs, signaling the arrival of Season 2.
The PV begins with Ranma introducing himself, saying, "I’m Ranma Saotome," followed by a montage of iconic scenes from the first season. The teaser then shifts to footage of throwing weapons flying towards the viewer, showcasing scenes from the upcoming season. The screen displays the message, "Anime Season 2 Production Confirmed!" accompanied by a mysterious male character's newly recorded voice declaring, "Prepare yourself, Ranma Saotome." Who is this man? How will he fit into the story? The teaser raises anticipation for the second season.
Ranma 1/2 follows the daily life of Ranma Saotome, a high school student who turns into a girl when splashed with water, and his fiancée Akane Tendo, set in a martial arts romantic comedy that involves plenty of chaos. The original manga ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1987 to 1996. The TV anime aired from 1989 to 1992, followed by theatrical films and OVA adaptations. In 2011, a live-action drama starring Yui Aragaki as Akane was also produced.
This marks the first new Ranma 1/2 anime production in 14 years, following the 2010 OVA It’s a Rumic World: Ranma 1/2 - Nightmare! Incense of Spring Sleep.
