Star Detective Precure! Episode 18 Features Detective Conan Collaboration: Akemi Okamura’s First Line as Ran Mouri’s Successor Was, “Conan-kun, It Would Be Terrible If You Got Lost”

The 18th episode of the anime Star Detective Precure! aired on May 31 on ABC TV and TV Asahi affiliates. In this unusual collaboration episode with Detective Conan, the voice of Ran Mouri was performed by Akemi Okamura, known for playing Nami in One Piece. Okamura is serving as the successor to voice actress Wakana Yamazaki, who passed away on April 18. This collaboration episode marked Okamura’s first appearance as Ran Mouri not as a temporary substitute, but as her official successor, even before her appearance in the main Detective Conan series.

The collaboration between Star Detective Precure! and Detective Conan brought together two anime series that air on different networks and are produced by different animation studios, making it a special detective-themed crossover that crossed industry boundaries. The story followed Anna and her friends as they helped prepare an exhibition by glass artist Misako Shindo at the Hosho Museum, where they joined forces with Conan Edogawa to solve a mystery.

In the episode, an incident occurs when the exhibition’s centerpiece, “The Forgotten Object at 12 O’Clock,” disappears. While Anna and the others search outside the museum for clues, they encounter Conan Edogawa, Ran Mouri, and Kogoro Mouri, who are visiting Makotomirai City. The episode depicted the Star Detective Precure team and Conan Edogawa working together to uncover the truth behind the case and confront the Phantom Thieves' Guild.

Regarding the role of Ran Mouri in Detective Conan, Okamura had been serving as a temporary substitute starting with the episode that aired on March 14, after Yamazaki took a leave of absence due to poor health. Yamazaki’s passing on April 18 was announced on May 15. The anime’s official website later explained that, out of respect for the character Yamazaki had carefully nurtured over the years, Okamura would continue in the role of Ran Mouri.

Because of this, attention had already been focused on Ran’s voice before the collaboration episode aired, with viewers wondering whether Ran would be voiced by Yamazaki. In the episode itself, Okamura’s voice as Ran Mouri was heard as Yamazaki’s successor, and her first line was, “Conan-kun, it would be terrible if you got lost.” Ran then played an active role in the episode, including subduing Nijii of the Phantom Thieves' Guild with karate.
