The brilliant strategist of the Frontier General Corps. Born into a poor family in the Osaka Metropolis, he was unable to receive a formal education. From a young age, he gambled against adults to support his household, using his winnings to buy books and teach himself. At age 21, inspired by Mitsuhide Ryumon’s work on the frontier, he passed the "Toryumon" trial and was recruited. Known for never failing, he earned the absolute trust of Ryumon and his subordinates. He is characterized by his round glasses and "sogami" (long, flowing) hairstyle.

During the Seii's westward invasion aimed at taking down both him and Ryumon, Kaku saw through the enemy's "self-sacrificial" trap (kunitoku-no-kei). He entrusted the "tsuri-nobuse" (luring ambush) strategy to Aoteru Misumi, leading to a decisive victory over the Seii army. However, he had been secretly battling a long-term illness and was heavily medicated. Although the disease was treatable, he chose to keep it a secret (even from Ryumon) resolved to keep fighting to end the era of chaos. He prioritized leading the army over his own treatment and literally traded his life for victory, passing away at age 32 during the journey home.
