Natsume's Book of Friends is based on the manga of the same name, serialized in LaLa. The story follows Takashi Natsume, a boy who has been able to see yokai (spirits) since childhood. He inherits the "Book of Friends" from his grandmother Reiko and, together with Nyanko-sensei, who claims to be his bodyguard, he spends his days returning the names of yokai that are bound in the book. Through his interactions with yokai and the humans connected to them, Natsume learns to protect the precious days of his life, with the help of his friends. Natsume's Book of Friends Season 7 (Natsume Yūjinchō Shichi) will begin airing on October 7, 2024, at midnight on TV Tokyo.

A powerful yokai named Madara, originally sealed inside a lucky cat statue, who has now taken on the appearance of the statue. He lives with Natsume as his self-proclaimed bodyguard, promising to take the "Book of Friends" if Natsume dies. Though whimsical, Nyanko-sensei is a reliable companion.

Since childhood, Takashi Natsume has been able to see yokai. After inheriting the "Book of Friends" from his grandmother Reiko, he spends his days returning the names of yokai with his self-proclaimed bodyguard, Nyanko-sensei. One day, a yokai thanks Natsume by giving him a mysterious ash with special powers. Natsume and Nyanko-sensei use the ash to create various clay objects, but soon strange occurrences begin, including the disappearance of a small Nyanko-sensei figurine Natsume had made.
